I don't think...

...a certain political party gets to complain about job-killing wastes of money only a decade after the war in Iraq. At least we get something for this job-killing waste of money.

I'm not generally a fan of Locke, but:

God, the lord and father of all has given no one of his children such a property in his peculiar portion of the things of this world, but that he has given his needy brother a right to the surplusage of his goods, so that it cannot justly be denied him when his pressing wants call for it

Exempt from Obamacare

A more interesting idea for Congressional health care is to not only remove them from the FEHBP, but forbid them from buying insurance on the individual market for a year so they can see what it's like to not be insurable.

I have nothing but contempt for the idea of delaying the individual mandate for a year. America needs some method of universal coverage, and this is the closest thing we have right now.

Facts are silent.

Merry Michaelmas, Western heretics!

I apologize for the bad pun. Was it better or worse than "saving Laos from the barbarians"?

A program to set stichera: not yet done

I've been thinking about it. I've been setting the stichera manually. I'm sort of getting an idea of how the text needs to be preprocessed for input and am slowing acquiring a library of stichera melodies and getting more of a feel for which notes in the cadences get divided and whatever. But I'm getting fairly speedy at setting things anyway and I've almost got a library of all the tones. So I'm kind of wondering if I really need to write a program, since I'm barely working much more than the whole "mark up the text" part, which is actually fairly involved. And then I would have to make a pass afterward anyway to correct things that didn't quite come out right. I don't know.

Saving Laos from the Barbarians

I couldn't help but make this pun. I hope you, too, enjoy and see a use for it. Joy of the feast to all of you.
